OECD Economic Surveys
Recommended supplement
Each book is a survey about an Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member, which includes Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Japan, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico. OECD was created in 1961 to promote policies of economic growth for its members. OECD Europe (in Paris) can be reached at www.oecd.org. The books are unique in that they provide very recent coverage of their members' economies in considerable detail. They are easy to read, but lack significant effort to present the material in any but the most basic fashion. Nevertheless, the books provide a comprehensive overview of each members' economy.
Each book includes:
- Introduction
- Chapter 1: Structural Change and Recent Economic Developments.
- Chapter 2: Economic Policy and Policy-Making
- Chapter 3: Some regional aspects.
- Chapter 4: The Developments of Markets: Corporate Governance, Competition, and Enterprise Behavior.
- Chapter 5: Labor Market Mobility and Flexibility
- Chapter 6: Living Standards and Social Protection.
- Chapter 7: Conclusions
- Notes and Bibliography
Another source that provides ranking information and could supplement the OECD surveys is the European Business Rankings (EBR) published by Gale Research (ISBN 1-73477-007). The Library and Information Service of the Manchester Business School receives around 800 periodicals and newspapers from around the world, together with an extensive range of directories, statistical series and market reports. These sources are constantly scanned for the inclusion of suitable ranking tables and selected for the EBR.
