The Financial Times
Description of publication
According to an ad in the Financial Times (FT), "Over 300,000 influential Russians disappear every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday." According to FT, you'll find them "buried in" (reading) the pink pages of their Financial Izvestia. Despite its morbid humor, the ad does point out an important fact, however; the Financial Times is a world-class newspaper dealing in business, financial, and economic news from Russia to Australia. It should be one of the first sources a student uses to get up-to-date reference information on the world economic situation. A sample of items from the table of contents includes:
News
- European news
- International news
- Asia-Pacific news
- World Trade news
Markets

- Foreign exchanges
- Wall Street
- Money markets

The Financial Times also has a special supplement called the Economic Times: Investor's Guide, which is all you want to know daily about what's hot in making money. That is difficult because trying to read one of these papers front to back will take so long you'll have no time for investing. Another product, the Financial Regulation Report, is a monthly newsletter available by subscription covering worldwide regulatory developments. It describes and summarizes new regulations and legislation and comments on the implications for the markets concerned. For information, call +44 171 896 2314.
FT also sponsors conferences on special issues; for example, "The Ninth Annual FT Petrochemical Industry Conference: Riding Regional Dynamics." These conferences can provide a great deal of recent research information through speakers and reports. Also keep an eye on the survey agenda for potential research opportunities; contact names and telephone numbers are provided. Special reports (e.g., "Reinsurance: Reports From FT Finance") can be ordered.
FT also has a Business Research Center where, as a client, you can specify the statistics, news, and analysis you want to receive. You can even get a free cost estimate, probably not for doing your research paper though.
