Description of Publication: International Directory of Company Histories

International Directory of Company Histories provides detailed information on the development of the world's largest and most influential companies. Company Histories has covered more than 2,500 companies in 14 volumes. Most companies chosen for inclusion in Company Histories have achieved a minimum of $100 million in annual sales and are leading influences in their industries or geographical locations. State-owned companies that are important in their industries and that may operate much like public or private companies are also included. Wholly owned subsidiaries and divisions are presented if they meet the requirements for inclusion.

Each entry begins with a company's legal name, the address of its headquarters, its telephone number and fax number, and a statement of public, private, state, or parent ownership. A company with a legal name in both English and the language of its headquarters country is listed by the English name, with the native-language name in parentheses.

Also provided are the company's foundin or earliest incorporation date, the number of employees, and the most recent sales figures available. Sales figures are given in local currencies with equivalents in U.S. dollars. For some private companies, sales figures are estimates. The entry lists the exchanges on which a company's stock is traded, as well as the company's principal Standard Industrial Classification codes.
