15. Directories
Recommended Supplement: The Standard Directory of Advertising Agencies
Whether you are a student or with an agency, you will find the "Red Books" to be one of your most important resources. Red Books are a constant source of data for new business development, market research, sales lead generation, job hunting, or just about any other need you may have for locating industry information. The Standard Directory of Advertising Agencies contains nearly 9,000 agencies and branch offices. Each listing provides complete contact information, including the corporate Internet and e-mail address and fax numbers, names and e-mail addresses of key executives, association memberships, annual billings with a breakdown by media, number of employees, year founded, new accounts acquired since the last edition was published, and a current client roster. Plus, two new sections listing cyberagencies (agencies involved in Internet site consulting, design, and development) and "Who Owns Whom."
The Standard Directory of Advertisers provides in-depth information for more than 24,500 companies that have advertising budgets in excess of $200,000 annually. Based on your primary usage, you can select the directory in either a business classification or geographical format. A separate, complete index listing brand names, SIC codes, product categories by state, and personnel is included. Also available with the Standard Directory is Red Books Plus, a computer service that allows fast, easy access, via your personal computer, for locating specific data found in the Red Books. You can conduct searches using one, several, or all of the 20 available search criteria. It is, according to the editors, the ideal method for gathering data for market research, lead generation, and competitive and industry analysis.
