17. Selected Business Periodicals

Recommended Supplement: Entrepreneur

According to the editors of Entrepreneur, America's small-business owners numbered about 23 million and growing.

There is so much information in this magazine (about 230 pages, contemporary format, lots of color, ads, info-boxes, etc.) you really have to buy one to figure out what's going on. For example, there are six to eight features of about three pages each (e.g., "In the struggle between principles and profits, can an entrepreneur have both?" by Janean Chun); 12 columns including topics such as "Travel Smarts," "Entrepreneurial Woman," "Global Vision," and "Books"; and seven departments: Technology, Money, Management, Marketing, Government, FYI, and Opportunity Spotlight.

One can easily see that this is a magazine for entrepreneurs and has dedicated itself to meeting their needs. The magazine is filled with ads trying to sell businesses, and that gets old quickly. If you're looking for substantive articles dealing with substantive research and writing, this may not be the source for you. Nevertheless, the entrepreneurial topics are germane, contemporary, and interesting.
