Encyclopedia of Consumer Brands provides substantive information on products that have been leaders in their respective brand categories and have had a decided impact on American business or popular culture. Often considered household words, the featured products have become integral parts of the lives of American consumers, and many have gone on to achieve international recognition.
The Encyclopedia's three volumes highlight approximately 600 of the most popular brands in America. Coverage in each book emphasizes brands that have been prominent since 1950 and are now on the market, with a few inclusions of instructive debacles such as the Edsel. Another publication, Brands and Their Companies (ISBN 08103-5574-4) a two-volume set by Gale Research and in its 13th edition, provides easy access to more than 282,000 consumer brands and about 51,000 manufacturers and distributors. Brands are presented first in an alphabetic sequence. Company listings follow in a separate section printed on yellow paper, permitting users to locate company information quickly and easily. When available, fax and toll-free numbers have been included.
