Section I. is a cross-section of reference works that by virtue of their popularity and utility come easiest to mind when looking for business information. Any number of books or journals could fit in this category, but these sources could be considered a good beginning:

  2. Standard & Poor's Industry Surveys (annual with updates) is a comprehensive two-volume reference work offering a wealth of valuable data covering all major domestic industries. (a) What information is included? (b) TRUE or FALSE? One of the weakness of the analysis is that it ignores the prospects for that particular industry? (c) Does the analysis provide for industrial trends and problems in a historical perspective or only current year? (d) One unique section titled, "Comparative Company analysis" provides data for each firm over a (choose one): 3 year, 5 year, or 10 year basis.
  3. Robert Morris Associates' Annual Statement Studies. The Statement Studies contain data that are arrayed by asset and (fill in the blank)__________ size. How many classic financial ratios are offered? There are more than (fill in the number)_____ industries at the four digit SIC level and at the six digit NAICS level.
  4. True or False. According to the FASB director of research and technical activities, it is the job of FASB to publish its FASB Accounting Standards---Original Pronouncements (in two volumes) with the intent of communicating consensus and pronouncements on issues relating to marketing.
  5. Please name five of the "Free WSJ.com" sites.
  6. The Occupational Outlook Handbook, the American government's premier publication on career guidance, provides essential information about prospective changes in the world of work and qualifications that will be needed in the future work environment. Concerning Employment in managerial positions in advertising, marketing, and public relations, managers held about __________jobs in 1998. Concerning the Job Outlook, employment is expected to (choose one) increase faster than average, maintain present levels, or decrease faster than average for all occupations through 2008.
  7. At the Harvard Business Review (HBR) web site under "Tools & Resources" (on the Home Page) there is a section titled: "Free Resources." Three sets of "Free Resources" are offered. Please list them.
  8. The reference value for biographees in Who's Who in America (see also: Who's Who in Finance and Industry) is based on either or both of what two factors?
  9. True or False? Industrial Research Institute (IRI), (publisher of Research-Technology Management) is a nonprofit organization whose members are approximately 3000 industrial companies with technical research departments. These member companies are responsible for the conduct and management of a large portion of all industrial research and development activity being carried out in the United States. (Outstanding hyperlinks to major corporations.)
  10. The Small Business Sourcebook (SBS) provides expanded and updated coverage of a wide variety of sources of information and assistance for all entrepreneurs. What does Volume One cover and Volume Two cover?
